Model Name: Conventa S2
Chassis type: 2-litre class Rally Car
The Heaveola Conventa was concieved by the Heaveola Motor Company as the car that would introduce the Heaveola brand in the Ryonite mass market. Heaveola had been previously present but in a rather small scale. The cars offered were the same as those from the Marvegan market, but they never reached great numbers because their huge size and elevated price. The only car really suitable for the market was the Heaveola Club, the bottom of the Heaveola range, although it never managed to beat the smaller and more refined Ryonite rivals. Aiming to achieve the top of the selling charts in Ryone, HMC management rang to their partners in the Calceus Design Studios of Torno. Previously, they had helped HMC to add some style to their Marvegan range, but now the HMC managers ordered them to produce a car that would be a best seller in Ryone. For that, Calceus Design ordered a huge economical support from HMC, to produce a car that would introduce many innovations in a rather conservative automaker. Negociations were finished with an agreement: HMC would purchase Calceus Design Studios so that the Azarians could have access to all economical resources available. In exchange, Calceus would compromise to work exclusively for Heaveola. The deal was signed in 1962, and the trigger had been pressed. That same year, Calceus recieved one million simoleons from their new parent company to renew their facilities: a completely new engineering lab was created, with a wind tunnel and hiring over 2,000 engineers from all over Azaria. A new office block was built as well, to host the Ryonite headquarters of HMC. With all these investments, Calceus was transformed from a small coachbuilder and styling house to a full automotive development company. And so, the Conventa concept was started in all these new facilities. The engineering department quickly achieved a monocoque front-engined, rear wheel drive layout, with a rather innovative McPherson independent front suspension at the front, and trailing arms at the rear. Early prototypes were built as disguised Lamell Veglias in 1963. The Marvegan managers got to drive them and were suprised by the light and quick handling they had. After that, the project was taken to the styling department, that choose a contemporary styling without being too much revolutionary. The project was completed within 3 years, and become the most expensive of its day. The only Marvegan developed part of the car was the engine: an MCC "Pacifica" 4-Cyl engine range (offered in 1.3, 1.6 and 1.8 versions) with twin carburetors and twin overhead camshafts (except for the 1.3). The car was a success, mostly because of the high levels of customization that the Conventa offered, thanks to the HMC Ryonite Storage Point Network, that customized cars according to the owners' desires. Initially it was sold in 4 trim levels: B (Base), S (Sport), L (Luxury) and GL (Grand Luxury). In 1966, a top-of-the-range GLS (Grand Luxury Sport) variant was added with a 2 litre variant of the "Pacifica" engine with fuel injection. Thanks to the GLS, the Conventa MkI became the best-selling car in Ryone until it was discontinued in 1970 by the Conventa MkII. Although it was supposed to be replaced by the Heaveola Ardenne, based on the Smoogo-HMC Azam, the Ardenne never materialized due to the bad results that the Azam was obtaining.
